Recycled dinner party: eco-friendly, sustainable design

During October, sixteen of the best designer-makers in the North East invited Evoke Art & Design to experience the joy of making as part of a unique exhibition in Design Event 07: Delight in Design.
Based in the new Designed & Made gallery in the recently refurbished LIVE Theatre the exhibition gave visitors a chance to view hand crafted works created from old, recycled and salvaged materials. The range of work varies massively with each designer-maker responding to the challenge in their own way.
DELIGHT IN DESIGN WORK GALLERY:
We have highlighted some of the best works from Delight in Design which you can view in our image gallery
In the months leading up to the exhibition the designers were guided through a challenging visioning process by sustainable design facilitator Alastair Fuad-Luke, writer of The Eco-Design Handbook. They have explored local, ecological and social contexts to make sustainable objects to feature in the show.
Workshops were held throughout the exhibition allowing visitors to actively participate and explore the designers works on a more intimate scale, such as witnessing sculptor Stephen Newby blowing metal or working with ceramics alongside Jessamy Kelly.
DELIGHT IN DESIGN EXHIBITORS:
Participants are all members of Designed & Made:
Ali Rhind, Bridget Jones, Bronwen Deane, Claudia Phipps, Dan Civico, Jessamy Kelly, Lianne Bell, Mandy Pattullo, Michael Armstrong, Nick James, Sarah Blood, Sheila Martin, Stephen Newby, Sue Woolhouse, Tessa Holland & William Pym.
